                                                    Selfie-a new trend in India               
Hold you phone at a high angle, flip your camera to front, make  that perfect pout , Show devil-may-care attitude and click .This is something  a new smart phone user trend prevailing today among the youth .The word ‘ Selfie’ was awarded as the word of the year in 2013 by the Oxford University .In this fast moving technological and digital world Selfie has become a fad and a way to garner likes on social networking sites to boost your self confidence .The famous actors/actresses or celebrities acted as the guiding angels to the people by putting their selfie’s on the social networking sites with or without make up. The latest being the selfie posted by Ranveer  singh  inside the operation theatre before he went for his shoulder operation, which went viral within a fraction of seconds. The pose here is important, knowing self awareness is conveyed by the slight raise of the eyebrow, the side way smile that says you are  not taking it seriously , a Doe-eyed stare and mussed up hair denotes natural beauty .Sexiness is suggested by sucked in cheeks, pouting lips, a nounchalant cock of the head .Snap!!. After words  , a flattering filter is applied, outlines are blurred, colours are softened, a sepia-tint to make you look what you don’t, All sorts of weird faces are made. This is an instant process, then with just a click it is uploaded on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. The screen gets filled up with thumbs- up sign and heart shaped emoticons. This is the actual selfie culture and we have selfie’s for every occasion.
      Even in the previous year elections a new selfie trend was started by the people clicking their selfie with that voting finger and uploading it on the social networking sites. This selfie craze in a way increased the voting population. Not only the people but several politicians were also spotted  clicking and uploading their selfie with their symbols. The selfie trend does not get restricted to celebrities or politicians but has reached even in the outer space. In December Japanese astronaut  Aki Hoshide took what might be the greatest selfie of all time at the International  Space Station. The resulting image had the sun, the earth, a spacesuit and the deep darkness of the infinite beyond. Even the smart phone mobile companies keeping in mind this new trend have come up with various new strategies for the designing of their new products. Devices such as HTC One, Oppo N1, Gionee E7 are all examples of devices which have higher megapixels of front camera for clicking selfies. Applications such as Itismee, Instagram, and social networks like Twitter have been equally responsible for propagating the selfie culture and taking it to viral levels. According to study done by Wired, women are more likely to take selfies as compared to males. In Moscow for at least women take 80% of selfie. However there is another interesting fact to this story, that after the age of 40, men are more likely to post a selfie on Instagram than woman.
Famous newspapers and magazines have further classified the types of selfie’s-
1-Dwelfie-The most popular after selfie.It is when two people click their selfie.
2-Coolfie-The name may remind you of a sweet dish but it is actually another type of selfie, when cool people together click their selfie.
3-Groupfie-This is the most widely used type of selfie, it is when people click selfie collectively in a group.
4-The healthy selfie-This type of selfie is designed to show off healthy lifestyle which appears right after a gym session. This type is basically seen by celebrities who are fitness freak and who continuously want to be in limelight.
 Nowadays the most gossiped thing in town is the new selfie stick. A stick which is attached to the camera or the mobile phones so that people can click their pictures easily. As day by day technology is shooting up let us see what we have next in store for uploading pictures on the social networking sites.
