Capital Punishment in Indian Media Scenario

As we know that to become a hero a person has to struggle a lot and go through a lot of pains, but here the case is different in India. You commit a crime, get caught and you will be on the headlines. You will be on top of the gossip and the tinsel town. This so happened with the execution of Yakub Abdul Razak Memon on July 30.It has given a new issue to the Indian media especially to the 24x7 news channels. The riddle of Yakub Memon had all the 'Masalas' to attract the viewers.Today in a cut throat competitive environment media professionals have to prove their worth on a daily basis. In the age of breaking news media seems to be following the tricks of the trade. The IPL spot fixing cases also dominated the headlines for a few days and now the issues has been usurped by politics and  the focus is now on CM Vasundhara Raje and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj because of their alleged connection with the former IPL boss Lalit Modi which was also hyped for few days. All thankx to Yakub and Lalit Modi. Yakub Memons case is just in point. To some journalist this might be just a story. But between the datelines and bylines a journalist should also not forget that he is the mirror of the society.
And in a country like India there is no death of issues and the issue of Yakub is like the icing on the cake. The Indian media left no stone un turned to bring Yakub in the lime light before and as well as after his death. The every second details were telecast on the television. And seeing this attitude of the media the government had to change their various plans The name the flight from which he had to be sent to Mumbai was also shown easily. But in a real view Yakub's execution should not just remain a story, let this issue help us to trace the root cause of anger and frustration. Now let us shift our focus from the virtual world to the fact full world. The facts will definitely shake up your mind.
India retains capital punishment for a number of serious and heinous offences or crimes. The topic for number of death penalties given after Independence is still debatible. Some say it is 26 while official government statistics claim that only 52 people had been executed since Independence. In 2013 in response to public outrage over a brutal gang rape in Delhi, the Indian government passed an ordinance which applied the death penalty in cases of rape that leads to death or leave a person in an extreme coma state of mind. But these decisions are applied only on paper and lets just not talk about its application. In June 2012,it becomes known that Indian President Pratibha Patil near the end of her 5 year term commuted as many as 35 convicts to life imprisonment. This issue created an embarassment situation for the government when this issue came under public view.According to National Crime Record Bureau prison statistics report states that 1303 capital punishment verdict was passed between 2004 and 2013 but only 3 convicts were executed.3751 death sentences commuted to life imprisonment during this period.A very fruitful remark was passed by the UN general assembly, that awarding capital punishment is like violating Human Rights.OK agreed but were the human rights not violated during 1993 bomb blast where people died in huge number?,were the human rights not violated when in 26/11 Mumbai bomb blast where thousands of people died?.Just give it a thought, the answer will not surprise you.Just put yourself into the shoes of people who lost their near one's then maybe you will really understand what actual pain is like.
